What Are You Looking For?

Why come to church this weekend? What are you looking for?
These questions I believe lie at the heart of our Gospel reading this week. This reading follows a familiar passage of a large crowd that has been following Jesus because of the wonderful signs he has been doing.
In today’s gospel reading from John, it is the day after Jesus fed the 5,000. Jesus and the disciples have gone across the sea to get away for some private time but the crowds follow them. This is perfectly understandable. Jesus must look to them like their meal ticket. If he can provide food, who knows what else he can do?
